What to do:
1. What kind of software are you wanting to design ?
2. Choose a nice, friendly IDE (integrated development environment) with any language you want.
3. Trial & Error (try building the infamous Hello-World program)
4. Read tutorials...there are a lot of good ones on this site
5. BE WILLING TO PUT IN SEVERAL HOURS AT A TIME CODING
